[...] A post at the church planting blog for the United Methodist Church describes spreading scriptural holiness this way: Another occupation the church must take on is spreading holiness across their community. Even if a church offers all the grace it can to anyone who walks through its door, it still has a commitment to look for other places in need of grace and go there. When grace gets outside the internal church community, we call it holiness. Wesley defined it as “scriptural holiness” because it involved Christians taking the instructions Jesus gave at the Sermon on the Mount and applying them to real issues and problems facing the world. Holiness means living according to the Golden Rule, loving your enemies, going the extra mile, and doing for the least of these as you would for Christ. [...]

A few comments:

Multi-sites look good, but from my experience they rely too much on the strength of one, charismatic leader and lack discipleship among the church members at the sites other than the main one.

I think it is really, really, really difficult to start a church at 300 on the first Sunday, especially in our post-Christian culture. At the same time, I've seen several churches go from 20-30 folks to over 300 in several years.

Respectfully, I disagree with your statement: "Planters shouldn’t rely on their plant for their spiritual nourishment." That church is the Planter's local church! they need to plug in to relationships in that church, have accountability with church members, and spend time learning from others in the church. I see this as part of what the church is for. Relying on a spiritual director sounds nice, but that person does not understand the planter's church, and they can't provide the type of response needed from church members as they begin to build into their leader.

Thanks for your post!
