Becoming a charter member of a new United Methodist congregation – twice

On the first day of autumn it seems appropriate to talk about new beginnings. Today marks a new beginning for me as I enter the world of blogging. Journaling, I’ve done – regularly – for about twenty years. Blogging? Now, that’s another story. Sharing my private thoughts on the web for anyone to see? Are you kidding?!?! That’s why I have a journal - it’s just between me and God. But here goes… GULP.

How Do We Know When We Have Critical Mass?

There is such a thing as critical mass - the point when we have enough people that we can function well and attract more people.  A lot of churches do not grow due to their inability to reach critical mass.  Many new church projects are encouraged to postpone launching a weekly worship service until they have collected enough people in their orbit that they will have a minimum number of people - a number usually chosen on the basis of our desire for critical mass.
